Lidoriki (Λιδορίκι) Fokida

Lidoriki is a traditional and picturesque village of Kefalochori in the Prefecture of Fokida. Today it is the capital of the Municipality of Doridos.

Its name is related to the ancient Dorians. As Lidoriki, it is mentioned for the first time in the episcopal catalogs of the time of Leo VI of Sophia (886-912 AD), during which there was the Diocese of Lidoriki, which belonged to Larissa. Traces of its ancient settlements are found in Paliochori, Kaltezias and Tragoudakis, where the old settlements are located.

It was also the seat of the former Municipality of Lidoriki, until 2010. Its population, according to the 2011 Census, is 875 inhabitants.

It is built at the foot of Giona above the Mornos River. It is located at an altitude of 550 to 700 meters. West and fifteen kilometers from Lidoriki, is the dam of the artificial lake of the river Mornos, which was created for the water supply of Athens - Attica, etc. Just below Lidoriki passes the largest tunnel in Greece (16.5 km long), which pierces the volume of Giona and exits over the fortress of Amfissa, through which passes the water transfer channel of the lake to Attica.

Lidoriki is an administrative as well as a transport center of the mountainous Dorida. It has a Lyceum, Health Center, public authorities and shops, while serving 56 villages in the area.

It has always been the center of every revolutionary uprising, while during the Turkish occupation, it was destroyed several times by the Turks. Center for action of Athanasios Diakos, Skaltsodimos, Siafakas, Androutsos , G. Karaiskaki and other chiefs. Athanasios Diakos was imprisoned by the Turks in a house in the Varousi district, from where he escaped and later became the well-known heroic chief.

In 1943 it was looted by the Italians, while on 29 / 30-8-1944 it was completely set on fire by the Germans, for which reason it was characterized as a martyrdom town. In 1949 it was the epicenter of the deadly battles of the civil war.

Lidoriki is mainly a livestock center and its inhabitants, those who remained from immigration, are engaged in animal husbandry, producing excellent quality cheese and meat products.

As attractions it has Agios Georgios, Panagia Zoodochou Pigis, but also the Archaeological and Folklore Museum. Also the dam and the lake of Mornos. The fortress and the remains of ancient Gallipoli that were destroyed in 279 BC. by the Gauls, (that is, what was saved from the waters of Lake Mornos). The huge spring (velvet) of Kallio, the monastery and the cave of Arsali and the almost vertical cliff of Gkiona (1,100 m.), The "Plaka", a famous climbing field with a negative slope, located near the village of Sykia.
