Lake Voulkaria (ancient name Myrtuntium), Satellite image, Anaktorio municipality

In 31 AD, Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt crossed the lake which in that time was a lagoon and it is said that she avoided to be captured by the Romans after the battle of Actium. The heavy Romans ships could not pass through the so called canal of Paleros.
