In 1583 it is mentioned by the Castrophylaka as Chieramuzzi with 192 inhabitants. In the northeast of the village, at 300 m., On the landfill of Kastelli, the ruins of Castel Malvizin are preserved, from which the whole province of Malevizi took its name. From the name of the province it took its name and the wine Malvasia. During the Turkish occupation it was the only village in the area inhabited mostly by Turkish Cretans. Many residents of the village today come from Asia Minor.
