Keramoutsi is a village and former community of the municipality of Malevizi, with 340 inhabitants in 2001. It is located 15.4 km from the road to Krousonas, 3.5 km south of Tylissos. The inhabitants are engaged in viticulture and olive growing. There are also rakokazana for the production of tsikoudia. In the village are the holy temples of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary with interesting frescoes of St. Anthony, also with frescoes of 1434, of Saints Constantine and Helen and St. George. At Flega there is a recreation area, while in the square there is a large mulberry tree, which testifies that in the old days the inhabitants were also engaged in sericulture. There are also many mansions in Keramutsi. The cultural association of the village is active. The main festivals are of Agios Ioannis Klidonas and Panagia, so the settlement celebrates [1].
Historical data
In 1583 it is mentioned by the Castrophylaka as Chieramuzzi with 192 inhabitants. In the northeast of the village, at 300 m., On the landfill of Kastelli, the ruins of Castel Malvizin are preserved, from which the whole province of Malevizi took its name. From the name of the province it took its name and the wine Malvasia. During the Turkish occupation it was the only village in the area inhabited mostly by Turkish Cretans. Many residents of the village today come from Asia Minor.
Iraklis Kokkinidis (1842-1868), chief of Malevizi, was born in the settlement and took part in many battles. He was killed in 1868 in the Battle of the Gaza Strip, near Seville. A monument (bust) was erected in his memory today in the village.
