Kastanoussa (Καστανούσσα) Serres
Kastanousa, Serres (known as Palmes until 1926 [1]) is a village in the prefecture of Serres with a population of 592 inhabitants in the 2011 census [2]. The village belongs to the municipality of Sintiki.
Geography
The village is located at the southern foot of Mount Belles on the Bulgarian-FYROM border.
History
Ottoman Empire
According to the statistics of Vasil Kanchoff ("Macedonia, Ethnography and Statistics"), in 1900 there were 1,150 Bulgarian Muslims living in the village. However, Georgi Strezov in 1891 reported that the village was inhabited exclusively by people of Pomak origin.
During the Ottoman period, Kastanousa was inhabited by Muslim Ottomans, who after the exchange of populations between Greece and Turkey settled in the area of Mersin.
He was obviously not of Bulgarian descent.
The sources you use (Vasil Kanchoff-Georgi Strezov) are not valid.
Hellas
During the Balkan Wars the village was liberated by sections of the Bulgarian army, but after the Second Balkan War in 1913 the village was annexed to Greece.
