Historical data
Archaeological finds have been found in the area around the settlement from illegal excavations. Interesting murals are found in the temples of Panagia and Agia Kyriaki. The village is mentioned in the Venetian census. In particular, in 1583 in Kastrofylakas Cassanus is mentioned with 84 inhabitants [1]. As the name implies, Cassanos are a better type than the singular: Cassanos. The name of the village is probably due to the family surname of a Jewish family whose existence we are informed by 14th century documents. From there, perhaps, was the origin of the first settlers, according to Stergios Spanakis [2]. According to another version, the village is said to have been founded by Italians who colonized the area. There are even place names in Italy with the name of the village.
