General and historical facts
The settlement was built shortly after the creation of the Greek state by Arcadians and refugees from Crete. It took its name from the name by which Heraklion was known during the period of the Venetian occupation[2]. An important attraction of the area is the tower of Kandia, also known as the tower of Aga, which during the Turkish occupation was the residence of a local Ottoman official. At the same time, ruins from the Mycenaean era have been found on the neighboring hill of Agia Eleusa[2]. The village has a beach of the same name.
Administratively, it belonged until 1997 to the community of Irion in the province of Nafplio and then it belonged to the Kapodistrian municipality of Asini[3]. Since 2011 it belongs to the municipality of Nafplio.
The Tower of Aga
The traditional tower house in the upper settlement reveals the beginning of habitation in the area. The tower house dates back to the end of the Greek revolution and housed
the house of Kandia Aga.
