Kalogeros (Καλόγερος ) Rethymno
Kalogeros or Kalogerou is a village in the municipality of Amari, in the regional unit of Rethymno, Crete. According to the 2011 census it has 119 inhabitants. It is 30 km from Rethymnon and is built at an altitude of 480 m. [1] on the northwestern slopes of the Amari valley. A short distance away is the village of Thronos. [2] It has been declared a traditional settlement.
The village is mentioned by Francesco Barocci in 1577 as Calogeru. In the Venetian census of 1583 by Kastrofylakas it is mentioned as Calogieru with 67 inhabitants and in the census of Vasilikata of 1630 it is mentioned as Calogieri. [1] In the 1834 census conducted by the Egyptians, it had a purely Christian population, with 7 Christian families living in the village. The 1881 census mentions the municipality of Merona and had 192 Christian inhabitants. In the 1900 census it had 233 inhabitants. The 1920 census lists it as the seat of a rural municipality. [1] In 1925, Kalogeros became part of the Throne community, but in 1930 he was appointed seat of his own community until the Kapodistrian administrative division, when he was annexed to the Municipality of Sivritos. [3]

Near the village, the church of Agia Marina is preserved, which is painted on the inside. According to the founding inscription, it dates from 1300 (, sosi = 6808). [1] In Spilios is the frescoed church of Agios Ioannis the Theologian. On the west wall, the founding inscription survives, which writes that the church was built in 1347 at the expense of Ioannis Aspromouris. The frescoes of the temple, among other things, present facts from the life of St. John the Theologian, such as the shipwreck. Saint John the Theologian is also depicted on the quadrangle of the niche in the representation of Deesis. [4]
In the village it is the headquarters of the cheese production unit. [5]
