Kallergos (Καλλέργος) Rethymno
Kallergos is a village in the municipality of Mylopotamos, in the regional unit of Rethymno, Crete. According to the 2011 census it has 18 inhabitants. It is located 25 km east of Rethymno, at an altitude of 210 m. [1]
Although the village is named after the Kallergis family, which played an important role in the history of Venetian Crete, the village is not mentioned in the Venetian census. The oldest mention in the village is in the census of 1881, in which it is recorded together with the neighboring Skordilos with a total of 160 inhabitants. The census mentions Skordilon and Kallergon in the municipality of Margarita. In the census of 1900 it is mentioned as Kallergon in the municipality of Elefthernaion with 43 inhabitants. In the 1920 census it is referred to as Kallergos and belonged to the rural municipality of Alfa. [1] In 1925 it was annexed to the Alpha community, until 1971 when it was abolished by an independent settlement. It was re-established in 2001, when it was annexed to the municipality of Geropotamos. [2]

The church of the village is dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin Mary and bears the iconostasis of 1882. Ecclesiastically it belongs to the parish of Alpha, of the Holy Diocese of Rethymno and Avlopotamos. [3] The building owned by Alkmini Malagari has been designated a listed building. [4] It is two-storey, with a single-pitched roof and a gamma shape and has a walled courtyard.
