Greek National Road 44 is a highway linking the cities of Thiva, Chalkida and Karystos. The total length is nearly 200 km. The highway passes in the prefectures of Viotia and Euboea. Much of the highway has curvy roads.

The highway begins in downtown Thiva near where GR-3 partially used to be. It passes into the interchange of GR-1/E75. It runs a rare joint with GR-77 to Chalkida. The highway now bypasses Thiva and begins further east at this interchange. The highway passes in the northern bridge with the island of Euboea and passes into downtown Chalkida. The southern bridge is linked with the Chalkida Ring. The highway runs to the southeastern part. It passes into the western part of the island until near Dystos with curvy roads. The highway passes into the middle of the island in either directionf for about 25 to 30 km. It runs to the southern portion of the island and ends in Karystos almost entirely with curvy roads.

History

In the 1960s, the bridge with mainland Greece and Euboea opened. The entire highway was later paved. Later in the late 20th century, another bridge in the south opened and is bypassing Chalkida. Before that, there were no highways in Euboea.
