Gorgogyri (Γοργογύρι) Trikala

Gorgogyri is a village in the regional unit of Trikala, at the foot of Mount Koziakas, at an altitude of 206 meters. It flows from Kefalopotamos. [1] According to the 2011 Census, it has 483 inhabitants. According to the administrative division of the Kapodistrias plan, it was a Municipal Department of the Municipality of Koziakas, while with the Kallikratis program, it was a Local Community of the Municipality of Trikala. Today it is a Community of the same municipality. The central church of the settlement is the Genesis of the Virgin, which celebrates on September 8. In the village the custom of Karkatzala is observed (with the traditional bells) every first of the year. [2]


Administrative history

The community of Gorgogyri was established on July 6, 1929 with the detachment of the settlement of Gorgogiri from the community of Xyloparoikou and its designation as the seat of the community. It operated until its abolition in 1997 and its annexation to the municipality of Koziakas. [3] In 2011 it was merged into the new Municipality of Dirfies - Messapia according to the Kallikratis Plan. [4]

1991-1998 Konstantinos Blatsas Last president of the community until its abolition.

The current president of the Community (2019-present) is Elias Tsiounis. [7]
