Agrapidies (Αγραπιδέαι) Florina
Agrapidies or Agrapidees (formerly named Gorisko [1]) is a mountain village in the regional unit Florina at an altitude of 660 meters [2].
Geography - Sights
Agrapidies is located in the western part of the Ptolemaida - Amyntaio plateau, northwest of the small lake Zazari. They are built next to the provincial road Amynteou - Kastoria at a distance of 13.5 km SW. from Amyntaio and 41 km SE. from Florina. In a specially fenced section of an oak natural forest, with an area of 70 acres, there is the wolf shelter of the environmental organization Arcturus. It hosts all the wolves that managed to escape from Greece and neighboring countries [3]. Arcturus operates in the same area the facilities of the Veterinary Station that provides accommodation and first aid to wild mammals [4]. The area that starts south of the village and extends mainly around Lakes Zazari and Cheimaditida is characterized as Natura 2000. It is considered an important habitat for birds and serene landscape with mountainous forest landscape on the west side, swamps, reeds and fertile plain on the east [5].
Name - Administrative
The village, during the Turkish occupation, was called Gorisko and with this name it is mentioned in 1918 in the Government Gazette 259A-29/12/1918 to be annexed to the then community of Aetos. It was renamed Agrapidies in 1926 [6]. Since 2010, according to the Kallikratis plan, it is the local community of Agrapidea that belongs to the municipal unit of Aetos of the Municipality of Amyntaio and according to the 2011 census has a population of 120 inhabitants [7].
