Tomb of Leonardo Buonafede, marble by Francesco da Sangallo, Florence, Italy
Leonardo Buonafede, sometimes also called by the spellings Lionardo, Bonafede, Bonafide or Buonafè (1450 - Florence, 1545), was an Italian Catholic bishop and patron of the arts. In 1518, with the death of Niccolò Pandolfini, bishop of Pistoia, Buonafede was a candidate for his succession, but Antonio di Alessandro Pucci was chosen . For this reason, Buonafede abandoned Pistoia, agreeing to become bishop of Vieste (1528-1529) and later of Cortona (1529-1538). He later returned to the Certosa del Galluzzo, where he had the Della Robbias execute new works in glazed terracotta and where he arranged for his tomb (in the chapter house), commissioning it from Francesco da Sangallo.
Francesco Giamberti, known as Francesco da Sangallo, Francesco di Giuliano or also "Margotta" (Florence, 1 March 1494 - Florence, February 1576), was an Italian sculptor of the late Renaissance, son of the architect and sculptor Giuliano da Sangallo.
