Tzanes Ventramos (or Bentramos) (Τζάνες Βεντράμος)
(16th century). Lyricist from Nafplio. Many scholars consider him Italian, from a Greek (Epirot) mother. Ventramos , who was a trader, wrote textbooks with teaching content. One of them, An Account of Virtuous Women and Others Who Were Wicked (Venice, 1549), is known from the only copy that was saved and is now in the Library of Munich. Another is called The story of Avarice and Vainglory (Ἱστορία Φιλαργυρίας μετὰ τῆς Περηφάνιας)(Venice, 1567), in which the songwriter often goes back to ancient Greek history. These verses are of particular literary interest, as they bring us into direct contact with the preferences of literary circles and scholars of that time.
