Praxiphanes (Πραξιφάνης). A Peripatetic philosopher, born either at Mytilene or Rhodes. He flourished about 322 BC, and is said to have taught Epicurus. He paid much attention to grammatical study, and is hence classed with Aristotle as one of the founders of scientific grammar (Clem. Alex. i. p. 365). He wrote treatises on the poets, on history, and on poetry, and was the teacher of Aratus and Callimachus.
