Coin of king Nicias (c. 90-85 BC)
Obv: Helmetted bust of Nicias with Greek legend BASILEOS SOTEROS NIKIOU "Saviour King Nicias".
Rev: King in armour, holding a palm of victory in his left hand, and making a gesture of benediction with his right hand, similar to the Buddhist vitarka mudra. Kharoshti legend MAHARAJA TRATARASA NIKIASA "Saviour King Nicias".
Nicias (reigned c.90-85 BC) was an Indo-Greek king who ruled in the Paropamisadae. Most of his coins have been found in the area of the Jhelum valley, in modern Pakistan.
He apparently joined forces with Hippostratos, an eastern Indo-Greek king, against the invading forces of the Indo-Scythians.
