The resting Hercules Farnese
He is known from a signature of the marble resting Hercules sculpture which was found in the year 1546 in the Caracalla Baths in Rome
The sculpture is a copy of an original bronze version produced by Lysippus. In the year 1787 Johann Wolfgang Goethe who was in Rome described the sculpture as one of the most perfect works of art. Many copies have been produced of this sculpture. In Germany there is a giant version of the resting Heracles in the city Kassel.
