George Spanos
George Spanos of Evdilos, Ikaria, Greece (c.1872 - 1912), was killed in a Turkish ambush on July 17, 1912. He is honored as the hero of the Ikarian Revolution (his bust, depicting him with bandoliers and defiant rifle in hand, may be seen in the National Resistance Square in Evdilos). He was married to Maria Poulianos, and was the father of seven children (Nicholas, Despina, Vassilia, Irini, Fotini, Konstantinos, and Vassilios).
