ART

In Greek mythology, the Thriae ("pebbles"; also Thriai) were three virgin sisters. They were nature goddesses, by the names Melaina ("the Black"), Kleodora ("Famed for her Gift"), and Daphnis ("Laurel"), who were able to see the future (a trick learned from Hermes) and interpret the signs of nature and omens (such as tossing pebbles, the source of their name). They lived near Mount Parnassus. The Thriai may have been identified with the Coryciae, nymphs of the prophetic springs of Mount Parnassos.

In art, they were old, winged and silver-haired (covered in white flour). They bear a resemblance to bees covered with pollen.
