Demeter (Ceres), daughter of Cronus and Rhea, sister of Zeus and Hera, goddess of agriculture. Her daughter Persephone (Proserpina) was taken to the underworld by Hades as his wife. Demeter angry said to Zeus that she will stop the growth of grain and fruits if her daughter does not return back. Finally Hades was convinced and there was an agreement that Persephone can visit every year for some period her mother but she had to return to Hades.
