Sinope in Greek Mythology was one of the daughters of Asopus and eponym of the city Sinope on the Black Sea.

According to Corinna (Frag. 654) and Diodorus Siculus (4.72.2) Sinope was seized by the god Apollo and carried over to the place where later stood the city named after her. Diodorus adds that she bore to Apollo a son named Syrus, supposedly afterwards king of the Syrians, who were named after him.

However the Argonautica (2.946) and Valerius Flaccus (5.109) relate that Sinope was abducted to the site by Zeus who in his passion swore to fulfil her dearest wish. Sinope declared she wished to remain a virgin. Sinope later tricked Apollo and the river Halys in the same fashion and remained a virgin all her life.

And straightway they landed on the Assyrian shore
where Zeus himself gave a home to Sinope, daughter of Asopus, and
granted her virginity, beguiled by his own promises. For he
longed for her love, and he promised to grant her whatever her
hearts desire might be. And she in her craftiness asked of him
virginity. And in like manner she deceived Apollo too who longed
to wed her, and besides them the river Halys, and no man ever
subdued her in love's embrace.
Apollonius of Rhodes, Argonautica 2
