In Greek mythology, Eëtion (Ancient Greek: Ἠετίων Ēetíōn [ɛː.e.tí.ɔːn]) was the king of the Cilician Thebe.
Family
Eetion was the father of Andromache, wife of Hector,[1] and of seven sons, including Podes.
Mythology
In Book 6 of the Iliad, Andromache relates that Achilles killed Eëtion and his seven sons in a raid on Thebe,[2] but in Book 17, Podes appears and is killed by Menelaus.[3] This inconsistency on Homer's part may be an implication that some traditions gave Eëtion eight sons.
His wife is never named, but Andromache relates that she was captured in the same raid in which Eëtion was killed, and died of sickness in Troy following her release.[4] However, a certain Astynome, also called Chryseis, was said to be the wife of Eetion at that time. She was carried off by Achilles and later became the war prize of Agamemnon.[5]

There his wife ran up to meet him,
Andromache, daughter of great-hearted Eëtion,
who'd included a large dowry with her.
Eëtion had lived below the forests on Mount Placus,
in Thebe, king of Cilician people.
Among the Trojans was a rich, brave man called Podes,
son of Eëtion, to whom Hector gave
a special honour among men as his companion,
his good friend at a feast.

"Hector,
which of the Achaeans will now fear you,
since you're afraid of Menelaus,
who so far has been a feeble spearman?
But all by himself he's snatched a body
from the Trojans and gone off with it.
He's killed your trusty comrade Podes,
Eëtion's son, a noble front-line warrior."
