Ceres, Merida

The sculpture was found on the stage front of the Teatro de Mérida together with that of a muse, another of the god Serapis (previously identified as Proserpina and Pluto, the three sculptures recreating the myth of the kidnapping of Proserpina) . It was found during excavations in 1911 directed by José Ramón Mélida. (Information from the Museum)
