Cecrops II (Κέκροψ, derived from κέρκοψ ) was son of Pandion I and inherited the Athenian throne from his brother Erechtheus. He was succeeded by his nephew Pandion II, the son of Erechtheus.
He married Metiadusa, the daughter of Eupalamus. He dedicated in the Temple of Athena Polias on the Acropolis in Athens a wooden statue of Hermes. He was the first who called Zeus as Hypatos among the other gods. No animal sacrificied to Zeus were allowed by him instead so-called Pelanoi were used, cakes, burned on an altar.
