In Greek mythology, It is the war between the Amazons and the Athenians under Theseus. The Amazons came to bring back Antiope the sister of their dead queen. Antiope had been abducted by Theseus during Heracles ninth labour. The Amazonian army was annihalted by the Attican forces and Antiope herself was killed.
