In the centuries following the fall of the Mycenean civilisation (about 1125 BC) the great settlement centres were gradually abandoned, the population declined and the economic and socio-political conditions were transformed. All these processes had a direct influence on art. The old features of the once mighty Mycenean civilisation were amalgamated with the new ones that emerged as a result of the migrations and population movements, producing a nre style in vase painting, the Geometric style, which lasted about three centuries (1050-700 BC).
