The Antikythera Mechanism

Seven large fragments (A-G) and 75 minor pieces (1-75) made of bronze
have survived.
It is not certain that the 75 small fragments belong to the Mechanism
It contained at least 30 gears, dials, scales, axles and pointers.
The Greek inscription on the surface of many fragments refer to astronomical
and calendar calculations as well as to the instructions for its use.
It was contained in a wooden-framed case probably with a bronze plaque
on its front and back.
It is dated ca 150 - 100 B.C.
