3496 : Dionysos, Relief slab. Pentelic marble

Copyright ©. Photo : www.hellenicaworld.com

Found in the Rigillis Street, Athens. The three slabs 3496, 3497, 3498, with their
Dionysiac motifs, will have formed the revetment of an altar.
The slab inv. no. 3496 has a depiction of Dionysos at the centre, holding a
thyrsos and a bowl. Next to him is a nude wine-pourer. At right and left
are two figures of winged Nike leading sacrificial bulls, probably to a
victory sacrifice after a drama contest.
