Found near the monument of Lusikrates in Athens. The decree honours
Philiskos, son of Lykos of Sestos in the Thracian Hellespont, as proxenos
(public guest) and benefactor of the city of Athens. The honour is also
extended to his descendants. Philiskos had warned the Athenians of the
hostile movements of the fleet of Byzantium in 356 BC, when they undertook
a campaign against the islands in the Thracian sea to protect
the city's grain supply, In the relief is depicted Athena Parthenos with the
Hero-Horseman and the honorand, Philiskosm venerating in front of her.
