Cross section of a Fire Ship , pyrpoliko (πυρπολικό), boat that was used to set the enemie's ships on fire. It was filled with asphalt and other flammable materials. The little boat at the rear was used by the crew to get away when the fire was about to start. National Historical Museum, Athens, Greece.
