Skripero (Σκριπερό) Kerkyra

Skripero (Sklipero [2] is also mentioned by the locals) is a village in Corfu. Administratively it belongs to the municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands and according to the 2011 census, its population amounts to 500 inhabitants [3].
General and historical data

Skripero is built at an altitude of 130 meters [1] and is 18 kilometers from the city of Corfu. The settlement is mentioned in a Venetian census of the period 1766-1770 as the seat of a military subdivision (Bandiera di Scripero). According to the data of the same census, 937 inhabitants lived in Skripero. At the same time, there were 23 olive mills in the village. A few years later (1786) it belonged to the military subdivision of Korakiana, while according to statistics of Stylianos Vlassopoulos - which dates between 1809 and 1813 - the population of Skriperos amounted to 563
inhabitants [5].

During the Russo-Turkish occupation of Corfu (1798-1801), some residents of Skriperos were persecuted by the authorities as troublemakers.

Sights-culture

In the settlement is the nunnery of the Most Holy Theotokos Vlacherna, which was built in the late 18th century and initially operated as a male [7]. In addition, a few kilometers from Skripero is the preserved mansion "Villa Fontana", which is mentioned as a remarkable example of local architecture [8].

The Scripero has been home to a philharmonic association since 1909. In addition, the culinary feast of the carpenters is organized every year in the village, which is dedicated to recipes based on frogs [2].
