History
The architectural remains of the city of Panormos are located on the slopes of Mount Agios Ilias. The city is identified by scholars with the ancient city of western Locri, Phaistino, where the important sanctuary of Apollo of Phaistos was located. Significant findings from the wider area highlight the importance of the area in ancient times: the rich classical pitfall (Louza site), the ancient defensive tower in the NW of the village and of course the number of inscriptions with the so-called ions, liberating acts of slaves according to which the slave sold to God inside the sanctuary of Apollo, which were discovered in 1947 [3]. The valid sale of slaves before witnesses for the purpose of liberation was a practice very common in Central Greece and especially in Delphi.
Panormos used to be called Kisseli, it was also called Kisseli. In 1912 it was recognized as the Community of Kisselis while in 1928 it was renamed the Community of Lemonia and in 1931 the Community of Panormos [4].
