Nemouta (Νεμούτα) Ilia

Nemouta is a village in Ilia. It belongs to the Municipality of Ancient Olympia [1]. Nearby is the village of Achladini. It is known for its unique beauty and numerous waterfalls, near the banks of the river Erymanthos.

Designation

The name Nemouta comes from the ancient "nemo", which means pasture, or "nemo", which means to share [pending reference]. According to Max Vasmer, whose point of view was adopted by the professor of the University of Athens and president of the Society of Ilia Studies Kon. Iliopoulos is of Slavic descent from "nemytb" (feminine nemyta), meaning unwashed, while Andreas Boutsikas, from the Icelandic Shelter, considers the origin of the name to be possible from the medieval town of Nemur in France, one of which A knight who settled in the area during the Frankish occupation, he named it after his homeland .
History

On 20/04/1835 it was annexed to the then Municipality of Kladea and was designated as its seat [1]. The Government Gazette 5A of 08/03/1841 detaches the settlement from the Municipality of Kladea and annexes it to the then Municipality of Olympia [1]. With the Government Gazette 256A of 28/08/1912 it is defined as the seat of the homonymous community [1] [2]. With the Government Gazette 244A of 04/12/1997, according to the Administrative Reform "Kapodistrias", it is attached to the Municipality of Foloi until 2010 that joined the Municipality of Ancient Olympia (Government Gazette 87A - 07/06/2010) based on the Administrative Reform "Kallikratis" [1].
