Nea Michaniona (Νέα Μηχανιώνα) Thessaloniki
Nea Michaniona is a town, built amphitheatrically, in the prefecture of Thessaloniki, former seat of the homonymous municipality and now a municipal district of the municipality of Thermaikos (Law 3852/2010, Program "Kallikratis"). Ecclesiastically it belongs to the Diocese of Krini and Kalamaria. N. Michaniona celebrates the nine days of Panagia, on August 23, with a big festival that is visited by pilgrims from all over the prefecture. It has a real population of 7,303 inhabitants (2001) and is located southwest of Thessaloniki, on the east coast of Thermaikos Gulf and has a large fish ladder. It houses AEN Macedonia - Masters / Engineers. Its climate is mild, which is why many vineyards are cultivated. Of course, the main occupation of the inhabitants is fishing. The modern settlement was created in 1923 by refugees from Asia Minor, mainly from Michaniona, in the area of Kyzikos in Propontis.
