Mavrothalassa (Μαυροθάλασσα) Serres

Mavrothalassa is a village in the Municipality of Visaltia in the Regional Unit of Serres. It has a population of 1,572 inhabitants (2011 census). It is the seat of the municipal unit of Tragilos in the municipality of Visaltia.

Its previous name was Mounouchi and since 1920 it has been an autonomous community [1] which was renamed in 1927 to the Community of Mavrothalassa [2] [3]. In 1999, with the Kapodistrias program, it merged with other communities in the area, which later became the municipal districts of the municipality, in the Municipality of Tragilos, of which it was the seat. With the implementation of the Kallikratis program in 2011, it joined the new municipality of Visaltia. In the village there are two parishes and three churches, the Holy Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, seat of the parish of Mavrothalassa [4] and the Holy Temple of Agios Georgios, seat of the parish of the "Pyrgos" district, however due to the small size of the church the church has been erected. Holy Temple of Agia Marina, which is primarily used. [5]
