Mavromandila is a settlement in Achaia, southeast of Patras, about 8 km from its center.
General elements
Mavromandila has a population of 462 inhabitants, according to the 2011 national census [1], and together with Petroto and Agia Paraskevi they constitute the Local Community of Petroto of the Municipal Unit of Messatidos of the Municipality of Patras [2] [3].
The settlement is located near the Perimeter Street of Patras, between the villages of Neo Souli, Agios Stefanos, Kefalovrysso, Saravali, as well as in the district of Perivolas, next to the river Glafkos and at an altitude of about 130 meters [4] [5]. Near the settlement is also the historic winery Achaia Klaus.
Administrative development
Mavromandila was officially recognized as a settlement in 1928 and came under the then Community of Valatounas (later Petroto) (Government Gazette - 16/05/1928) [2] [3].
In 1955 (Government Gazette 191A - 19/07/1955) Mavromandila was designated the seat of the Community.
From 1997 (Government Gazette 244A - 04/12/1997) according to the Administrative Reform "Kapodistrias", it is attached to the new Municipality of Messatidos, while from 2011 it joined the wider Municipality of Patras (Government Gazette 87A - 07/06/2010), based on Administrative Reform "Kallikratis" [2] [3], where it belongs administratively today.
