Krya Vrysi (Κρύα Βρύση) Trikala
Krya Vrysi (former name Vanakoulia) is a mountain village in Thessaly in the regional unit of Trikala. [1] [2] It is the seat of the Community of Krya Vrysi which belongs to the Municipality of Meteora of the Region of Thessaly. The permanent population of the settlement in the 2011 census was 172 inhabitants. [3]
Geography
The village is built at an altitude of 500 meters on the northeastern slopes of Mount Koziakas or Mount Kerketi. [4] [5] It is about 7 km from Kalampaka, the seat of the Municipality of Meteora. [2]
History
The village, named Vanakoulia, is mentioned for the first time in a 16th century manuscript of the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior of Meteora. Exactly dated mention of the village is made in another manuscript of the same monastery of the years 1592-1593. [6]
The settlement was incorporated into the Greek state in 1881 with the Treaty of Constantinople. [7]
Administratively
In 1883, after the integration in the Greek state, the village of Vanakoulia joined the newly established Municipality of Aigini in the Province of Kalampaka in the Prefecture of Trikala. [8]
Community of Vanakoulia / Krya Vrysi (1912-1998)
In 1912 Vanakoulia was recognized as a separate community. [9] In the Community of Vanakoulia, in addition to the homonymous settlement, the settlement of Hani Koutsoulia was also included, which was subsequently abolished in 1920. [9] [10] In 1955 Vanakoulia was renamed Krya Vrysi and the community was renamed Krya Vrysi Community. [1] In 1961, the settlement of Kalivia was added to the Community, which in 1963 was renamed Trifyllia. [11] [12]

Municipal / Local Department of Krya Vrysi (1999-2010)
In 1999, based on the Kapodistrias plan, the Community of Krya Vrysi was abolished and the settlement was incorporated into the Municipality of Kalampaka, being until 2010 the seat of the Municipal / Local Department of Krya Vrysi. The Municipal / Local Department of Krya Vrysi also included the settlement of Trifyllia. [13] [14]
Local Community / Community of Krya Vrysi (2011 to date)
Since 2011, based on the Kallikratis Program, Krya Vrysi is the seat of the Local Community of Krya Vrysi (since 2018 it is simply called the Community of Krya Vrysi) of the Municipal Unit of Kalampaka of the Municipality of Meteora based in Kalambaka. The Community of Krya Vrysi also includes the settlement of Trifyllia. [15] [16]
Population
During the Turkish occupation, the village seems to have had 28 families in 1758 and 22 houses in 1820. [6]

Ecclesiastical
The parish of Krya Vrysi belongs to the First Hierarchical District of the Holy Metropolis of Stagi and Meteora based in Kalampaka. The parish church is the church of Agios Minas which is first mentioned in the sources in 1828. [6]
