Much of the population left after the war in the 1950s. The settlement features a restaurant by the sea and several attractions. Olive groves cover the area around Kitries and hills eastward. The area is nicknamed the "Dark Taygetos" because the sun is hidden by the mountains until the mid morning hours. Kitries also features a lighthouse on Cape Kitries.
