Kinidaros (Κινίδαρος) Naxos
Kynidaros (or officially Kinidaros) is a village in the central mountainous Naxos at an altitude of 380-440 meters and has 341 inhabitants (2011 census). [1] It is about 14 km from Chora and belongs to the municipality of Naxos & Small Cyclades. It is built at noon on the hill of the central plateau of Naxos and is located on the road axis Chora Naxos - Stavros Keramotis. Its rich history, monuments, temples, musical tradition and customs have made it a very popular destination for tourists on the island. It has been a traditional settlement since 1988. [2] [3]
Although Kinidaros is a mountain village, it is nevertheless located on a geological plateau, since next to it are the largest marble quarries, of the well-known marbles of Naxos. From Kinidaros comes the well-known and large artistic family of Konitopoulos that almost all its members evolved into great singers and organ players. Kinidaros is one of the most faithful to its traditions (mainly the music and dance) villages of Naxos. Dancing and "violins" are the passion of its inhabitants. They also have the following saying: "Children first learn to dance and then to walk."
The population of the village since 1880 did not exceed 600 (from 1960 and after 350) inhabitants. The settlement of Akrotiri Naxos also belongs to Kinidaros. There is an elementary school and the holy church of the village is dedicated to Agios Georgios. The Kinidaros Cultural Association, known as "The Apocalypse," has created a large lending library in a room donated by the parish of its church, which opened on Easter Monday, 2007.
The route Chora Naxos - Kinidaros is one of the most beautiful routes of Naxos with rich geological alternation where and vice versa the view of the plain Naxos is panoramic. Kinidaros is also connected with the Monastery of Keramoti and Eggare and through them with almost all the other villages of Naxos.

Administrative changes
In 1835, the settlement is listed as Kynidaros and has 221 inhabitants (66 families) and is annexed to the newly established Municipality of Tragaia in the province of Naxos, based in the settlement of Chalkeio. [18] [19]
In 1912, it was decided that the settlements, which had more than 300 inhabitants and an elementary school, would become independent communities. Thus, the settlement of Kynidaros is detached from the municipality of Tragaia, which is abolished and the community of Kynidaros is established, based in the settlement of Kynidaros. [20]
In 1940, in the census, the name of the settlement is corrected to Kinidaros. [21] [11]
In 1997, with the implementation of the Kapodistrias program (law 2539/97), the community of Kinidaros was abolished and the settlement of Kinidaros was annexed to the Municipality of Naxos, based in Naxos Town. [22] Specifically, with the Kapodistrias program, it belonged to the Municipal Department of Kinidaros, of the Municipality of Naxos, of the prefecture of Cyclades, to the geographical department of the Aegean Islands. [17]
In 2010, with the implementation of the Kallikratis program (law 3852/2010), the Municipality of Naxos was abolished and Kinidaros was annexed to the newly established municipality of Naxos & Small Cyclades. [23]
Today, after the last change of 2010 (Kallikratis program), it constitutes together with the settlement of Akrotiri (47 k.) The Local Community of Kinidaros (388 k.), Where a seat has been set. The so-called Kinidarou belongs to the Municipal Unit of Naxos, the municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades, the regional unit of Naxos (the former prefecture of Cyclades), in the region of South Aegean.
