Elaionas (Ελαιών) Fokida
Elaionas is a semi-mountainous settlement of Parnassida in the prefecture of Fokida at an altitude of 340 meters [1] and is located NE. of Amfissa at a distance of 5 km from it [2].
Geography - History
Elaionas is built at the foot of Mount Parnassos in olive trees, pines and plane trees, next to the EO of Amfissa - Bralou. Its old name, until 1927, was Topolia [3] and came from the Slavic word topol which means poplar. Sights of the village are its twelve small chapels, the church of Agios Vassilios with a wood-carved iconostasis from the end of the 19th century and the building of the Primary School built by the national benefactor Andreas Syggros [4]. In the wider area, on the hill "Amblianos", in 2014 the Ephorate of Antiquities of Fokida excavated a vaulted tomb which was used from the 13th to the 11th century. BC [5]. In the same area on July 14, 1824, the victorious battle of Ambliani for the Greeks took place between the Greek fighters and the Turks.
Administratively
In 1912, with the Government Gazette 261A - 31/08/1912, a community of Topolia was established with its seat in Topolia (the old name of Elaionas) [3]. According to the Kallikratis plan, since 2011, it has been the local community of Eleonos, which belongs to the municipal unit of Amfissi of the Municipality of Delphi and according to the 2011 census has a population of 338 inhabitants [6].
