Drosato (Δροσάτο) Fokida
Drosato is a small semi-mountainous settlement of Dorida in the Prefecture of Fokidos, at an altitude of 450 meters [1].
Geography - Sights
Drosato is located to the southwestern borders of the prefecture with the prefecture of Etoloakarnania and east of the river Mornos. It is built on the hillside with a panoramic view of the plain of Efpalio, south of the Gulf of Corinth, southwest of the bridge Rio - Antirrio and in the background the mountains of the Peloponnese [2]. It is 7 km NW. from Efpalio, the seat of the Municipal Unit and 16 km D.-BD. from Nafpaktos [3]. Its name is due to the cool climate and the green that surrounds the area. The original location of the village was at the location "Pera village" under the hill Aetofolia (581 meters) and from there its inhabitants moved in the 1860s, who today are mainly engaged in animal husbandry [2]. Drosato as an attraction has to show the holy temple of the Evangelist Luke, where every year there is a festival in honor of the Saint and the majestic church of St. George. At the end of August, the famous "bean festival" takes place. To the southwest of the village and near the provincial road Tepsitheas - Spartias in the location "Karabasi", there are ruins of houses and a tower from an old Turkish settlement. In the place "Barkorema" are preserved stone-built wells, a fountain as well as the remains of a temple dedicated to the Prophet Elias [3].
Name - Administrative
The old name, from the time of the Turkish occupation, was Kardara and with this name it is mentioned in 1835 to be annexed to the then municipality of Oineonos of the prefecture of Fokidos and Lokridos. It was renamed Drosato in 1960. [4] According to the Kallikratis program, together with the settlement of Pefkaki (150 inhabitants) they constitute the Local Community of Drosatos, which with a total population of 199 inhabitants belongs to the Municipal Unit of Efpalio of Doridos Municipality and according to the 2011 census has a population of 49 inhabitants [5].
