Caunus was under the control of the Persians. After a revolt and the victory of the Greeks in the Greco-Persian war Caunus joined the Delian Leaue. After one century Persians gained again the control of the city until the conquest of Persia by Alexander the Great. Caunus was ruled by the Hellenistic Ptolemaic and Seleucid kings. In the period 190-167 BC it was under the rule of the Rhodians and then it was part of the Roman Empire.
