Ano Chovoli (Άνω Χόβολη) Achaia

Ano Chovoli is a small mountain settlement in Achaia and belongs to the "Kallikratiko" Municipality of Kalavrita.

Location

It is built at an altitude of 849 meters [1], on the slopes of Tartaris [2], a little north of the corresponding settlement of Kato Hovoli on the slopes of the "Ampelina" extension of Tartaris [3], a few kilometers north of the National Road Patras-Tripoli . Near it are Kato Hovoli, Alestaina, Sopoto, the village of Dafni (Strezova), the settlements of Pau, Pefko, Skotani and Kalivia Skotani.

It is reported that in 1903 the then united village was an hour's drive from Sopot and had a school (secretariat) [2] [3] while Ano Chovoli was a fourth way on foot from the settlement of Kato Chovoli [3].
Administrative development

On 16/10/1940, with the division of the single village until then into two separate settlements [4], it was annexed to the then Community of Hovoli [5] [6]. With the Government Gazette 244A of 04/12/1997, according to the Administrative Reform "Kapodistrias", it is annexed to the Municipality of Paia until 2010 which joined the "kallikratiko" Municipality of Kalavrita (Government Gazette 87A - 07/06/2010) based on the Administrative Reform " Kallikratis "[5] [6].

Demographic development

The demographic development of the settlement of Ano Chovoli, as a separate settlement, according to the national censuses [7] [8] is as follows:
1940 1951 1961 1971 1981 1991 2001 2011
67 [4] 91 [4] 51 [4] 32 [4] 21 [4] 27 [4] 22 [4] [9] 4 [10]

Other information

The houses in the village are more cohesive compared to Kato Chovoli, where the settlement is spread along the provincial road network. The parish and cemetery church of both Ano Chovoli and Kato Chovoli is the Holy Trinity, while in its periphery are the churches of Agios Ioannis, the Apostles Constantine and Helen and the Prophet Elias which is located on the administrative boundaries of the two settlements [4] .
