Agios Stefanos (Άγιος Στέφανος) is a village of Lasithi perfecture in eastern Crete. Once, it belonged to the ex-province of Sitia and later to former Makry Gialos municipality. Today it is part of Ierapetra municipality. It is located 30 kilometers north east from Ierapetra, 40 kilometers southwest from Sitia, and 6 kilometers east of Stavrochori, if you come through the famous forest of Pefkoseli.
Its patron is Saint Stephen, that gave the name to the village. Saint Stephen church, in the entrance of the village, is an ecclesiastical and historical monument of all Crete.The village's previous name was Gras. Since the last decades the majority of the population has been moved to the village's seaside settlement of Makry Gialos, some 6 kilometers to the south. Makry Gialos is today one of Crete's most important tourist resorts.
