Apotympanismos (ἀποτυμπανισμός). Beating to death with sticks, cudgels, or clubs (τὸ τυμπάνῳ ἀποκτεῖναι, ὅπερ ἐστὶ ξύλον ὥσπερ ῥόπαλον, Lex. Rhet. p. 198) which is mentioned as a mode of execution at Athens and elsewhere.
