Γιοχάνες Γιάνσεν

Ο Γιοχάνες Γιάνσεν (Johannes Janssen) (10 Απριλίου 1829 - 24 Δεκεμβρίου 1891) ήταν καθολικός ιερέας και γερμανός ιστορικός που γεννήθηκε στο xanten. Μετά την αποφοίτησή του από το Rektoratsschule στο Xanten (σημερινό Stiftsgymnasium), σπούδασε στα πανεπιστήμια του Münster, του Leuven, της Βόννης και του Βερολίνου, και στη συνέχεια έγινε καθηγητής ιστορίας στη Φραγκφούρτη-αμ-Μάιν.

Χειροτονήθηκερέας το 1860, έγινε μέλος της πρωσικής βουλής των βουλευτών το 1875 και το 1880 έγινε οικιακός ιεράρχης του πάπα και αποστολικός προκρίτης. Πέθανε στη Φραγκφούρτη

'Εργα

Το σπουδαίο του έργο είναι το Geschichte des deutschen Volkes seit dem Ausgang des Mittelalters (8 τόμοι, Φράιμπουργκ, 1878–1894). Υποστηρίζει κατά του Λούθηρου, του Ζβίνγκλι και των άλλων Προτεσταντών μεταρρυθμιστών της Μεταρρύθμισης και ισχυρίζεται ότι ο Προτεσταντισμός ήταν υπεύθυνος για τη γενική αναταραχή στη Γερμανία κατά τον 16ο και τον 17ο αιώνα. Τα συμπεράσματα του συγγραφέα οδήγησαν σε κάποια διαμάχη και ο Janssen έγραψε στο An meine Kritiker (Φράιμπουργκ, 1882) και στο Ein zweites Wort an meine Kritiker (Φράιμπουργκ, 1883) ως απάντηση στο Janssens Geschichte des deutschen Volkes (Μόναχο, 1883) του Max Lenz, και σε άλλες κριτικές.

Το Geschichte, το οποίο έχει περάσει από πολυάριθμες εκδόσεις, συνεχίστηκε και βελτιώθηκε από τον Ludwig Pastor, και το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του έχει μεταφραστεί στα αγγλικά από τους M. A. Mitchell και A. M. Christie (Λονδίνο, 1896, fol.). Από τα άλλα έργα του ίσως τα πιο σημαντικά accessναι: η επιμέλεια του Frankfurts Reichskorrespondenz, 1376–1519 (Freiburg, 1863–1872). και του Leben, Briefe und kleinere Schriften του φίλου του JF Böhmer (Λειψία, 1868). μια μονογραφία, Schiller als Historiker (Freiburg, 1863); και Zeit- und Lebensbilder (Freiburg, 1875).
