Omorfita of Omorphita (Greek : Ομορφίτα) is a settlement of Nicosia in the Nicosia District of Cyprus.
After the Turkish invasion of 1974, the entire administrative area of the district is not controlled by the Republic of Cyprus. This territory is controlled by the unrecognized state of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, with almost half of the administrative area of Omorfita located within the Dead Zone.
Location
To the north it borders the community of Mandres, to the east and southeast with Kaimakli, to the southwest with Neapoli and to the west with the community of Trachona.
Designation
There are two versions of the origin of the name Omorfita:
the name comes from the word beautiful.
its founders came from Morphou and thus the village was named Omorphita.
Omorfita was known, both to Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, as Koutsuk Kaimakli. Kuchuk means small in Turkish. The designation small was used to distinguish between Omorfita and Kaimakli, who was known as Buyuk Kaimakli, i.e. Great Kaimakli.
History
Until 1968 Omorfita was a separate village. On March 29, 1968, the Village Authority of Omorfita was incorporated into the Municipality of Nicosia.
