The cape was an idispensable part of civilian clothing on the fifteenth century in the whole Iberian Paninsula. Its use was naturaly transposed lo the life of the Portuguese in India, using local labour force for its manufacturing The cape, light piece of clothing and adapted to the climate of India, is formed by sixteen panels of trapezoidal shape, fully embroidered with plant and animal motifs
The reading of its composition, from the bottom to the top. starts with a base representing the earth, from which emerges a bush, possibly representing the tree of life, decorated with flowers highlighting the lotuses, chrysanthemums and carnations, and also many fruits such as pomegranates and cherries.
