François-Joseph Luigi Loir (born December 22, 1845 in Goritz, Austria; † February 9, 1916 in Paris, France) was a French painter of the presentation of everyday scenes of Parisian life from the late 19th and early 20th century famous has been.
His works are exhibited primarily in numerous French museums such as the Palais des Beaux Arts in Paris, but also in Moscow, Prague and Vienna. A large number of his oil and watercolor paintings, and his lithographs were purchased by the City of Paris.
Life
The son of French parents started in 1853 to study art at the Académie des Beaux Arts in Parma, which he successfully completed in 1865. His breakthrough in the art scene he achieved with his work "Paysage à Villiers-sur-Seine" which he painted in the same year. Subsequently he worked under the guidance of the painter Jean Amable Amédée Pastelot (1810 - 1870) and created numerous ceiling and wall paintings, which helped him to great fame.
During the Salon des Sciences in Hôtel de Ville he presented his work "Les Préparatifs de la fête foraine" from, which was a great success. His performance prompted the city council of Paris to acquire the painting "Le Marche a la Ferraille" and "La Rue de la Pitie, vue du Val de Grace". Even the wife of the Russian czar bought paintings by the artist.
The works Loirs focus on views and scenes of Paris. He was appointed in 1870 as the official painter of the boulevards of Paris. Loir in 1898 was awarded the Legion of Honour.
