Salome (1889)
Herbo studied at the Academies of Tournai (at L. Legendre) and Brussels (1869-1874). He specialized in genre scenes and portraits. His genre scenes also include numerous, somewhat trivial, Orientalist scenes.
In 1889 he painted together with the animal painter Alexandre Clarys monumental canvas (137 x 200 cm) "Meeting between the Maria Hendrika Squadron, Queen Maria Hendrika and Princess Clementina" (Brussels, Museum of the Army).
Herbo was a co-founder of the artists' L'Essor "(founded 1876) in Brussels. Among the initial founders were more Louis Cambier, Henri Permeke, Louis Pion and Franz Seghers, curiously all artists who would never be labeled as "progressive".
His last address was Rue Wiertz 65 in Ixelles.
