Portrait of Julius Schnorr von CarolsfeldJoseph Ernst Tunner (* September 24 1792 in Upper degrees in Koflach, Styria, † October 10, 1877 in Graz) was an Austrian historical and portrait painter, and is the art of the Nazarenes Act. He was the father of the painter Silvia Tunner.
Joseph Ernst Tunner studied at the Vienna Academy. From 1821 to 1823 he was in Istria, from then until 1831 in Rome and joined to Friedrich Overbeck and the Luke brothers. He put his art at the service of the Catholic Church and created several altarpieces for churches in Styria. From 1840 he was director of the Drawing Academy and Gallery in Graz.
